September 15 marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino people and communities! Living in Arizona means we have a vibrant (and delicious) blend of cultural and culinary traditions and influences. Much of our agricultural landscape is influenced by Hispanic cultures and cultivated by Hispanic people. With this in mind, it is important to give thanks to the communities that help shape our culture, food, landscapes, and so much more. Several Hispanic, Latino, and indigenous farmers sell their produce at participating Double Up Food Bucks markets across the state. Celebrate this special month by stopping by, saying hello, and maybe even learning a new recipe or two!
After doubling up on delicious produce, use your fresh market finds to make this recipe: Throughout the next few weeks, check to see if your local market is holding any special events to honor the month! Attending these events can help you connect with the rich culture and communities we are so lucky to have in this vibrant place we call home. Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 to October 15, and there are so many ways to celebrate. We’d love to hear how you are honoring Hispanic culture and communities this month! “My mother gave me one piece of advice that stuck with me. She said don’t forget where you came from.”
