The connections we form with family and friends play an important role in our health. July is Social Wellness Month, and we encourage you to use it as an opportunity to focus on maintaining healthy relationships that can enrich your life year-round.
Social wellness focuses on supporting the people in your life emotionally, instrumentally, and informationally. When you nurture others, you not only improve their quality of life, but you also improve your own.

Acts of support do not have to be extravagant. Practicing good social wellness can mean listening to a friend or sharing a meal with your family. Small acts like this can enhance your social well-being in tremendous ways.

While it is beneficial to strengthen relationships with others, it is just as important to develop a positive relationship with yourself. When you are taking care of others, it is easy to forget to take care of your own biggest cheerleader: you!

Take time out of your day to focus on building a positive body image, maintaining mindful eating habits, and improving other aspects of your mental and physical health.

Here are a few ways you can celebrate Social Wellness Month:

- Get active with your family and friends. Going for a hike or swim with people you love is a great way to bond and exercise at the same time.
 - Participate in community events. Many communities have parties, volunteer events, and other ways to stay involved. This can help you form new relationships within your community.
 - Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Life can be stressful, and you do not have to go through it alone. Leaning on a friend or family member can help you improve yourself.

Positive social wellness is key to a happier, healthier self and community. This month, go the extra mile to take care of yourself and those around you.
