This month, we’re exploring some of the ways schools can act as hubs of connection and promote wellness for children, families, and entire communities. When schools and communities unite, they create opportunities for everyone to thrive. One incredible example of this work in our state is the Isaac Family Resource Center – a collaboration between the Isaac School District, community members and various organizations with a shared vision of wellness and success for their neighborhood. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi Giving back to the community and generous entrepreneurship aren’t typically the first things on a child’s mind, especially during summer vacation. But for 11-year-old Brooklyn Klein, the urge to make a difference drives her to give back to her community each week.

You already know that the food system refers to the production of food, policies surrounding food in communities, and our consumption habits. But what happens when our food system is not sustainable or equitable and cannot provide enough food for everyone? Unfortunately, this is the reality across America and the world today. |
