As the weather cools down, farms, gardens, and other establishments across Arizona offer a wide variety of festive fall experiences for people of all ages. This season is a great opportunity to visit and get involved in our flourishing local food culture!

Apples, pumpkins and corn abound during this time of year. Local farmers like to showcase these crops with fun events that are informative and help you get outside. We encourage everyone to use this season as an opportunity to support your local food system and learn more about how food is produced in your community.

Apple Orchards

Arizona’s climate is a wonderful place for apples to thrive. Many of our local orchards use this time of year to showcase their hard work and share their beautiful spaces with the public. Some of the local orchards will allow you to pick your own apples and even give you useful recipe ideas. A popular destination for apples and family fun is Apple Annie’s Fall Celebration. Pumpkin Patches

Fun fact: Phoenix used to be called Pumpkinville because wild pumpkins grew everywhere! Pumpkin patches and festivals are scattered all across the state during this festive season. Schnepf Farms and Tolmachoff Farms are some of the largest and offer all day activities including rides, food and mazes! Whether you have visitors in town or are planning a small family outing, this is a great way to enjoy Arizona’s diverse food culture and beautiful fall climate.

Corn Mazes

Stay active and learn about corn and in an a-maze-ing setting! Corn mazes are an interactive way to get outdoors, explore, and engage with growers in your community. Acres and acres of corn are grown to create these mazes, and each year farms showcase their hard work with an epic artistic representation of their harvest. Vertuccio Farms is a good place to experience a fall festival and a great corn maze. There are a lot of other options too, so search for a corn maze in your area to find one near you!

Harvest Festivals
Many of Arizona’s local farms bring all of these activities together as they host seasonal “Harvest Festivals.” The Arizona Harvest Fest and Tucson Harvest Festival are wonderful events that take place annually. Experiences include activities to learn more about indigenous and modern food practices, local artists, performers and culinary traditions. Get outdoors, get active and take part in these fun fall happenings!
