Following the Isaac community assessment, the Resource Center team turned directly to parents and community members to learn what kind of resources they would like to see in the center.

This month, we’re exploring some of the ways schools can act as hubs of connection and promote wellness for children, families, and entire communities. When schools and communities unite, they create opportunities for everyone to thrive. One incredible example of this work in our state is the Isaac Family Resource Center – a collaboration between the Isaac School District, community members and various organizations with a shared vision of wellness and success for their neighborhood. If you ask a child what their favorite subject in school is, you’re likely to hear “recess” as a response. Recess and interactive P.E. classes are not only a fun break from academic workouts in school – they also play a critical role in keeping our children healthy and happy. Today, August 17 is acknowledged as a National Nonprofit Day (NND)!
On August 17, 1894, the Tariff Act enforced the first federal income tax on corporations, which incorporated exemptions for nonprofit corporations and charitable institutions. Many things have changed since then, but nonprofit exemptions remain, and nonprofit organizations benefit our society in numerous ways. Whether you’ve already dropped your little ones off at school, or still have a couple of weeks of summer break left, now is the time to trade in your summer routine for an academic one. Ease your kids into a healthy, successful school year with these tips and tricks from our Pinnacle Prevention project managers Jaclyn and Jessie.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi Giving back to the community and generous entrepreneurship aren’t typically the first things on a child’s mind, especially during summer vacation. But for 11-year-old Brooklyn Klein, the urge to make a difference drives her to give back to her community each week.
July is National Park and Recreation Month, and that means it’s time to get your play on! The National Recreation and Park Association is encouraging everyone to stay active all month long by visiting local parks and recreation centers.
The summer heat is here, and with it comes the challenge of staying active while keeping cool. If you live in the Valley, it can be especially difficult to squeeze in physical activity while avoiding extreme temperatures. Health still happens in the summer! Beat the heat and get moving all season long with these fun and affordable activities.
Each year, the beginning of summer marks the beginning of fun, friends and a welcomed break for school children across the state. But for many Arizona students, this time of year also marks the end of daily, nutritious, and reliable meals.
Nearly half a million students in the state rely on free or reduced school lunches during the school year, according to the most recent Food Research & Action Center report. For many students, these guaranteed meals may be the only source of nutritious food they can count on each day. The school cafeteria doors may be closed for the summer, but hunger doesn’t go on vacation. Even though we think Mother’s Day should be celebrated daily, our Pinnacle Prevention team took it as an opportunity to celebrate parenthood and mothers all month long. We’ve spent the last few weeks talking about womanhood, motherhood, work-life balance, family-friendly workplaces, self-care and more. We value working parents everywhere, and we put these values into practice every day.
